Hiking character is desert-canyon walking, dune-edge traverses, reservoir/wetland margins and Yellow River cliff viewpoints.

The best source-backed natural walking area in this pass is Salawusu, where official Ordos sources describe the Salawusu Tourist Area, Ordos Man site, Batuwan area and a large desert valley/canyon landscape. The Kubuqi Desert provides recognised desert-trekking terrain, but most route sources are commercial or crowd-sourced rather than official public GPX.
