Storm is an outdoor-focused mapping platform created by Nick Calverey, a South African geospatial software engineer based in Chamonix, France.

Nick's path into geospatial software began in July 2017, when he joined Whympr as a consultant and soon became co-founder and CTO. He quickly helped broaden the product's direction and target audience, taking it from a pure summer climbing app towards a wider range of mountain disciplines, including winter alpinism, mountain biking, hiking and trail running.

Over the next six years, he led the company's technical direction, built its development team, oversaw the acquisition and integration of France's best-known outdoor mapping platform, Iphigénie, and helped transform the business into a profitable company.

In 2020, he was named one of France's « 100 acteurs de la montagne d'aujourd'hui et de demain » by TéléGrenoble and Le Dauphiné Libéré, one of ten people to make the selection in the category « Science et technologie ».

He began building Storm in autumn 2024, after learning that the market-leading FATMAP platform was about to shut down. Storm launched on iPhone in March 2025, followed by the web and Android apps.

The name Storm was chosen by his three-year-old son, who loves watching summer storms from the balcony of the family home.
